This is a real BLAST FROM THE PAST! It shows the starting line of the Chicago Marathon at a time when it was known as "America's Marathon" (with the word 'Chicago' omitted). This is the CBS-TV coverage on WBBM-Channel 2 with sportcaster Howard Sudberry & weatherman ( ! ) John Coughlin. Luckily the reporting team also included a real running luminary such as Tony Reavis.
In this era the race started in the heart of downtown alongside Daley Center, the course was totally different and I'd be willing to bet that you could walk up and register for it THE DAY BEFORE with no worries. (In February of 2012 this popular October event SOLD OUT and closed registration after just six days.)
