This video features the work of John Wood (father and son). John Wood 'the Elder' created the 'King's Circus' in 1754. He died six weeks after work had started, so the project was completed by his son, John Wood the Younger. This is the first example of the use of a 'Circus' in town-planning. Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus are derivatives, as are all other Circuses in Britain. John Wood the Younger also designed the Royal Crescent in 1766. HIs original intention was to extend Brock Street in a straight line, but he ran into the problem of a natural water-spring. So he redesigned the Crescent to follow the natural contours of the ground. Genius!
