Characters who used to work for/with a brilliant scientist (Emil was a bodyguard for Bruce Banner and Woodrue was Pamela Isley's mentor), however, they turned out to be antagonistic to them (Emil Blonsky was a communist spy trying to stop the US army in their research on gamma weapons, Jason Woodrue was using Pamela as a guinea pig for his experiment), they would cause the transformation of said scientist into one of the most iconic (and green) characters of their franchise (Emil cause the accident that would turn Banner into the Hulk with one of his sabotage and Woodrue's experiment would turn Pamela into Poison Ivy), in an ironic twist of fate they would go under a similar transformation with a cruel side effect (Abomination can not transform back into his human form, Floronic Man is more plant than man) as such they represent a darker version of the character they used to torment, they're also connected to a mystic energy (Gamma Radiation and the Green).
