Did you know that during World War II, the US made bombs piloted by pigeons?
But how did it work?
Three pigeons would be placed inside small compartments in the nose of a missile. A tiny screen in front of them would display the target.
Pigeons were trained to peck at the target on the screen. If the missile veered off course, the pecking would correct its path, successfully guiding the missile to its target.
So why pigeons?
Well, at this point, honing missile technology was in its infancy, and early prototypes were not performing up to expectations.
In contrast, these pigeons were highly accurate.
