Luigi Rossi
?- 1653
Passacaille c-minor
Edition Maurizio Machella
Rossi was a student of Jean de Macche in Naples and in 1633 became organist at the Roman church of San Luigi de' Francesi. In 1635 he accepted a call as a singer and instrumental musician to the Medici court in Florence, where he was soon held in high esteem. In 1641 he went into the service of the music-loving Cardinal Antonio Barberini in Rome and became one of the most important Italian composers of his artistic generation, but also still appeared as a singer. In 1646 he came to the French court at the request of Cardinal Mazarin. Highly honored and richly rewarded, he returned to Rome, where he died a few years later.
