China's VT4 main battle tank, also known as the "king of land battle", was displayed at the ongoing China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China) Thursday in Zhuhai City of south China's Guangdong Province.
VT4 is the latest main battle tank developed by the China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco Group). With a weight of 52 tons, it is also equipped with an engine of 1,200 horsepower to ensure its agility.
The engine compartment of the VT4 was designed as a well integrated square box for easy maintenance and replacement on the battlefield.
"When a tank is destroyed, we can take the engine out and put it into another tank whose engine has broken down. Then the fixed tank can go back to the battle field and continue to fight enemies," said Lin Wei, expert at the Norinco Group.
The power unit of the VT4 tank is also locally produced, which is almost as good as those of its European competitors, according to Lin.
"The power unit is built by Chinese companies, which is almost as good as the European power units. We have a series of products from medium to large horsepower units. Benefiting from the engine, the speed of the VT4 can reach over 70 kilometers per hour, a world top speed for tracked vehicles," said Lin.
The VT4 main battle tank is a Chinese third-generation main battle tank built by Norinco for export. With a 125mm smoothbore cannon, it is capable of firing kinetic energy penetrators, high-explosive squash heads, guided missiles and high-explosive anti-tank warheads.
