CAT and Detroit Diesel both believed in parts commonality, creating families of engines with identical bore + stroke, but different cylinder count. In this case the 3 cylinder RD6, 4 cylinder RD7, and 6 cylinder RD8, with identical cylinder dimensions and many shared parts. The RD6 was usually considered an AG tractor, with higher speed gearing. It is matched very well to the Killefer Subsoiler.
The John Deere Killefer Subsoiler is ideal for breaking up hard clay, if you have enough horsepower to pull it. The mole chained behind it creates a drainage channel deep underground. Look closely and you can see the disruption the mole causes behind the subsoiler.
