On Thursday, October 1, 2020, TDOT Commissioner Clay Bright joined state and local leaders in Chattanooga to celebrate the start of a new project along Interstate 24 at Broad and Market Streets.
The small, private gathering was held to allow attendees to maintain a social distance, while discussing the project near the project site.
The project will reconstruct the I-24 East interchanges at Broad and Market Streets – replacing the loops and ramps that serve I-24 and US 27 and creating a frontage road with signalized intersections at Broad, Williams, and Market Streets.
Improvements to the 1.6-mile section of I-24 will improve the safety and operation of the interstate, while also improving access to the south side of Chattanooga. Plans are currently underway to redevelop the area, including the old, dilapidated U.S. Pipe and Wheland Foundry site.
The $32 million interchange project is expected to be completed in August 2023.
