Wendy R. Sherman discusses her book, "Not For The Faint Of Heart", at Politics and Prose on 9/13/18.
Sherman joined the State Department in 1993 and served as the United States' lead negotiator on the multilateral Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015. In her new book, she looks back over twenty years of diplomatic experience, giving a rich insider’s account of her years as a key aide to secretary of state Madeleine Albright and a special advisor to President Clinton, which included coordinating policy on North Korea. Through these stories, Sherman, a regular media commentator on world affairs, gives a rare woman’s perspective on international diplomacy and shares key lessons about negotiating from positions of authenticity, avoiding manipulations and stratagems, and cultivating skills like courage, persistence, and empathy. Sherman is in conversation with journalist Susan Glasser of the New Yorker and Politico.
