"I think it's almost impossible to exaggerate the significance of that victory of Amazon. I mean, this really is the most important union victory in 100 years. And you know, symbols are really important when it comes to unions and it comes to organizing. You know, people before thought Amazon and Starbucks, but particularly Amazon, they really thought that Amazon was invincible and they don't believe that anymore, you know, and they think if you can win Amazon, you can win anywhere."

"But the campaign itself was really kind of remarkable because it was what I would call sort of worker led self-organization. I mean, all of the activists in the campaign, all of the key people were just Amazon warehouse workers."

"But really, it was this particular moment. You know, unions in America don't really have the ability to shift their environment, but they are able to take advantage of opportunities that arise because of changes in the larger environment. And I would say that's what's happened as a result of the pandemic. After two years of working throughout the pandemic and feeling that they were not adequately rewarded and feeling that they hadn't been treated with respect. A lot of the workers at Staten Island and also at Bessemer (Alabama) - we had an election down there that was very, very close - simply felt that they weren't being treated justly. They weren't being treated with respect. And the Amazon labor union, to its great credit, was able to convince to persuade them that the way to get respect at work was by having a seat at the bargaining table through the Amazon labor union. So I'm really not sure. Not not just that the Amazon labor union would not have been successful two or three years ago. I actually don't think any union would have been successful two or three years ago. We're in a different moment right now. And they were able to take advantage of that."

"Well, I think that is Amazon's greatest fear. I mean, as you said, this sort of most direct comparison is probably Starbucks. You know, Starbucks stores are tiny compared with Amazon warehouses. But what happened in Starbucks is they had two victories in Buffalo, New York, last December. It's now spread to over 170 stores have filed for union elections. They've won 10 out of the 11 elections have taken place so far. So Amazon desperately wants to avoid that type of contagion."
