The M.V.P.'s were an Atlanta based group that were comprised of Jack Frazer, Al Davis, Emory Cloud, and Jesse Bryant. Frazer and Cloud had been members of The Combinations while Davis and Bryant had been members of a group known as The Classics. They got together to form the M.V.P.'s and took the group name from their manager, former baseball player, Donn Clendenon, who had been named the most valuable player of the 1969 World Series champion, New York Mets. The group signed with Buddah Records in 1971 and released, Turnin' My Heartbeat Up, with lead vocals by Emery Cloud. The song got popular in the U.K. when it was included in a documentary film released in 1977 about the famed Wigan Casino titled, This England.
