This month (November 2021) I paid a return visit to Kemble Cotswold Airport to see the BA "Negus" livery 747, G-CIVB in her new location adjacent to the control tower at the airfield. Last time I visited and filmed the aircraft, it was still located on an apron area behind high fencing and it wasn't possible to get very close.
Fortunately, a purpose built and strengthened concrete hardstanding was constructed and finished in September this year and Negus moved to the new location during that month. Now you can literally walk under the wings and around the outside of the whole aircraft, with virtually no obstructions as you will see in this film.
Work was being carried out inside the aircraft - I'm hoping in readiness for when we can go on-board. I understand that the majority (or all) of the economy class seating has been removed to enable a flexible exhibition type space for a variety of different uses - but that the Club World and First seating areas remain. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough!
I'd thoroughly recommend you take a trip to the Airport - and try the food and drink at the "AV8" cafe too - a friendly welcome awaits you!
So here is "Negus" now - and with a flashback to when she was on active service for BA - on this occasion operating the BA 207 to Miami just before Christmas of 2019; filmed taxiing up from Terminal 5 (catch the glimpse of the Landor 747 tailfin too) towards the Runway 27 Right threshold and then departing with that classic and unforgettable RB211 "buzz-saw" engine sound. Enjoy - and thanks for watching as ever! Best wishes Steve.
