There are many advantages to alternative dispute resolution, particularly in divorce actions. They really come down to two options. There is mediation, and there is collaborative law. There are many advantages. First and foremost, people that enter into their own deal are more likely to follow that deal if they do it themselves as opposed to having it imposed upon them by somebody else. They typically have better relationships with each other afterwards if they enter into their own deal. It's much less stressful, much less time consuming, and a whole lot cheaper. Particularly if children are involved, it is important that you try very hard to settle your case outside of a courtroom. It creates a much less stressful, and much shorter process than going the fully contested route. I highly recommend it if it is possible.
