A discussion on Koral Dasgupta’s book Ahalya: The Sati Series
As a book on feminine consciousness in the context of Indian mythology, Ahalya, among many other things, charts a course for self-realisation. That is done by dismantling notions of the ‘man-made’ woman and timeworn social norms and structures that are created and sustained to confine.
This discussion will explore the ways in which women in mythology have reviewed contours of empowerment, imposed indefensible binaries and illusions of piety. The discussion will also go on to link contemporary roles of leadership undertaken by women which offer living and real-time instances of accomplishment and inspiration.
