There’s definitely an art to preparing your garden for winter, so let’ chat about it! 🤸🏻♀️
I know you’re tired (I am, too! 😅) and the last thing you want to do is spend hours doing clean up... BUT spending the effort now pays off big time in the following growing season. Trust me!
While I know that leaving the mulch in place overwinter is probably the best thing for my soil, I like to remove it for several reasons:
🦗It reduces the risk of harboring pests and disease...and I had A LOT of both this year due to having a wimpy winter followed by record-breaking rain all summer
🌡️Living in northern Minnesota, it’s a big challenge to get the soil to warm up for planting in the spring. Leaving mulch off helps it warm up faster!
❄️Lastly, we usually have pretty good snow cover and snow is a great winter mulch!
I got my soil test results back this week and they have me puzzled🤔! I’ve been brainstorming with our UofM extension office and hope to have a gameplan soon. They are so helpful and FREE!
If you’re interested in trying a my same soil test, you can find it in my Amazon store 🫶🏼
Have you started garden cleanup yet, or is your garden still growing? I’d love to know! ☺️
