On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, police have surrounded the Square and are preventing commemorative demonstrations of any kind. Hong Lei, a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, issued a statement claiming there are no dissidents in China, but the Government's extreme security measures seem to suggest otherwise. Meanwhile, Altaf Hussain, the leader of Pakistan's third-largest political party, the MQM, has been arrested at his house in London for suspected money laundering. In Karachi, MQM leaders ordered stores closed in protest, and residents fear increased violence between the MQM and other parties.
