Louis Horschel flies the P-51D Mustang "Mad Max" at the 2021 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show. Shot on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26.
The P-51 Mustang is one of the most well-known and most important aircraft ever made. A combination of the airframe built by North American aviation and the Rools Royce Merlin engine used in the Spitfire gave the Mustang incredible power. It was used as a fighter and a bomber escort in World War II, primary in Europe, and devastated the Luftwaffe's ME-109s and FW-190s.
This P-51, Mad Max, is flown by Louis Horschel and operated by Black Pearl Fighters in Kissimmee, Flordia. This was my first time seeing this Mustang at an air show. Its routine is graceful and elegant. This video contains footage from Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, I didn't film the act particularly well either day, so this is the best footage I can present. Also, there was a generator running right behind me on Sunday along with a strong crosswind, so the audio isn't great either.
Enjoy.
