Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge lies just east of the Dalton Highway and has been set aside as a National Wildlife Refuge since 1980 as a migratory waterfowl nursery and for recreation & subsistence uses. Yukon Flats is an ideal laboratory for Interior and Northern Alaska ornithologists and climate change scientists due to its remote location and minimally impacted natural condition.
