This year we've had some really interesting discoveries! Join us in this brief overview of top 9 biggest archaeological discoveries of the 2022. Number 4 - Nazca child sacrifice and psychoactives in Peru. Nazca is a pre-Hispanic culture in Latin America and it is famous for its trophy heads. They usually belonged to male enemies, but also to women and children. In this recent study, hair form several mummies, including trophy heads, was analyzed to see if those people were drugged before their execution. Hair from a trophy head belonging to a child, has shown the consumption of San Pedro cactus as a part of a ritual. San Pedro cactus is a source of mescaline, which induces hallucinations, auditory and visual alterations, ego dissolution and synesthesia. Also, hair from a female trophy head showed that she chewed coca leaves.
