Well guys, here is the first of 5 hotel tours/reviews I got on my recent trip to New York City & Southeastern Pennsylvania! This one being a Fairfield Inn located near LaGuardia Airport, this one being the location near Flushing that I stayed for the first night of my trip after flying into LaGuardia late at night.
Over the years, I've stayed in MANY Marriott properties including many Fairfield Inns, and even though this Fairfield Inn looks very typical in it's design at a glance and is a typical suburban style low rise hotel property, this has gotta be the STRANGEST & Most Unique one that I've ever stayed in! This hotel is very much clearly an Older Building that was gutted out and heavily renovated into a Fairfield Inn years ago, and it shows when you explore the property and get a closer look at it. The building is L Shaped, which while typical for this class of hotel, the building is pretty short and not very long on either side which is quite unusual. This hotel also features a overhang for check in traffic like most Fairfields do as well, but the lane for it is very narrow and the actual overhang isn't that tall. In addition, the Lobby is strangely sandwiched between the Lobby and the Basement, and the Breakfast area is super tiny here too. The layout of this place is just very unique and the proof this place was something else prior to becoming a Marriott property is literally all around you.
As for the rooms, they are also quite Unique in layout, and they in addition to the hallways were pretty heavily renovated at some point within the last few years and given that "New Fairfield" decor package. My room I got here was 1 King Room which costed me $180 for the night after taxes, and the layout of it is definitely not one that you'd see in a typical Fairfield Inn, but it was still pretty spacious and got the job done pretty well. The room I got while recently renovated still wasn't perfect, it still had it's share of maintenance/cleanliness issues, most notably in the Microwave as well as the grouting for the bathroom fixtures. The ceiling in the bathroom appears to have also received some water damage over the years, complete with some peeling paint/drywall. I can't complain about these issues too much as my bed as well as everything else in this room that mattered most was still pretty clean, but this definitely isn't the best Marriott property I've stayed at by any means from a cleanliness/maintenance perspective.
In addition to that, the other major cons this place has is that despite the fact this hotel is technically located in New York City, it is VERY FAR away from any MTA NYC Subway and LIRR stops, and despite being a typical suburban "Inn" style hotel, the parking here is VERY Limited and definitely not enough for the amount of rooms here.
On a more positive note, this hotel does have an Airport Shuttle that runs pretty consistently throughout the day, so even though this isn't the greatest hotel to stay at if you plan on actually spending time in the City, if you're staying for one night either right before an early morning flight or right after a late night arrival, this hotel is by no means a bad option, as the rooms are recently renovated and nicely done so at that, the hotel offers free breakfast, and the price is actually quite affordable for the area this hotel is located in. Just know that amenity wise this hotel is incredibly barebones for Fairfield/Marriott standards and at the end of the day, this is just simply a small Airport Hotel that serves its purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. Overall, my stay here was good enough that I'd stay here again for one night either right after arriving or right before leaving the city, but I definitely wouldn't stay here for the entire duration of my time in New York, and it's obvious that this hotel wasn't designed for that purpose.
