WATCH Florida deputies heroically rescue a four-year-old boy from a pond.
Body camera footage captured the dramatic moment two deputies pulled a four-year-old boy from a Florida pond on the morning of Tuesday, July 11.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a “concerned citizen” called 911 after seeing a young child run across a residential street and into a nearby pond in Dover.
In this footage, deputies are seen searching for a four-year-old boy with autism, who was “being kept afloat by cattails,” according to the sheriff’s office.
After rescuing him, deputies discovered that the boy is nonverbal. He was uninjured and reunited with his family, deputies said.
“I shudder to think of the outcome if not for the tenacity and efforts of these deputies,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "We will now work with the Department of Children and Families to determine if negligence played a role in this young boy’s disappearance.”
