As a birthday celebration for Leah (www.thevegetariantraveller.com), instead of (or in addition to) drinking lots, we decided that we would take a few days to go on a hitchhiking, hiking, free-camping adventure. From Hobart, we hitchhiked to Freycinet National Park and spent the night camping at the end of the infamous Wineglass Bay. We then continued on the Freycinet Peninsular Circuit.
The 30 kilometre Freycinet Peninsula Circuit travels around the Hazard Mountains to Hazards Beach, as well as passing Cooks and Bryans Beaches. It is meant to take two days, but with a (very) short supply of water, we were rushed and completed the walk 24 hours after starting it - with a nice, long sleep in the middle. During our walk we encountered wallabies, an echidna, and a huge, black snake - probably a tiger snake - that freaked the hell out of me.
After living in Australia for a year, I have fallen in love with Tasmania. So much of this island is so very beautiful and I wish I had found it sooner. My visa expires in 17 days, so my time here is up. This will be a nice memory.
