While the original Player series Jazzmaster took a bit of a tonal departure by including two humbuckers, the Player II version goes for a more traditional sound with two single-coils. However, the classic configuration is updated with newly designed Player II Alnico V pickups that deliver retro tones and contemporary articulation. There are even more upgrades. The Player model’s pau ferro fingerboard is now rosewood on the Player II, and the edges are rolled for a super-comfy feel. Hardware has been improved with ClassicGear machine heads for more accurate tuning, and the bridge features pre-radiused Mustang saddles for consistent action, purer tone and more secure string seating.
“The Jazzmaster is a really awesome guitar because it leaves a lot of room for players to find their individual voice on the instrument,” says Grammy nominated producer and singer-songwriter McClenney. “I love this guitar. It’s extremely special, unique, left of center and alternative, but individualistic. It’s such a songwriting tool, because you can get both dark and light flavors, but, more importantly, it inspires you to grab what makes you excited about music.”
You can sling the Fender Player II Jazzmaster over your shoulder in a classic sunburst, basic black, or in one of three vintage-inspired colors never-before-seen on production models—aquatone blue, coral red and birch green.
