Did you know that there is a planet in our galaxy that's darker than charcoal?

It's called TrES-2b and it orbits a star 750 light years away from us. This planet reflects less than 1% of any light that hits it, making it pitch black.

TrES-2b is a gas giant with a composition similar to Jupiter, but it's located very close to its star, belonging to the class of planets known as hot Jupiters.

The TrES-2 system was initially thought to be a single star, but a study in 2008 found it to be a binary star system, affecting the values for the stellar and planetary parameters. This fascinating planet continues to be studied by scientists today.
