Peyton Lambton is here to show you a super easy and affordable DIY project to create giant canvas art using something totally unexpected—a shower curtain! Choosing really large art is such an easy to make a statement in any room, but when it comes to art, bigger typically means way more expensive. I’m going to use a graphic printed shower curtain and some lumber. Step one is choosing your shower curtain. If you have with a design that goes all the way to the edges, you can make this as large as 68 inch square, but if you want to go smaller, just make sure your design will work. This is totally easy to adapt to your space. This shower curtain has really fun tropical print that’s so on trend right now. Next up, you’ll need your lumber. You’ll want two pieces of 1 inch by 2 inch lumber that are 68 inches long, and four pieces of 1 inch by 2 inch lumber that are 66 inches long. You’ll also need an electric drill, a staple gun, some 1 1/2 inch screws, and some nails. Tip! You’ll want to make sure your shower curtain is wrinkle free. That means you can iron it or, if you’re lazy, just throw it in the dryer for a few minutes. And now, it’s time to assemble. Honestly, this is so easy. Place your two longest pieces vertically, and then put the four shorter pieces horizontally, as if you were creating a ladder. Make sure your corner is a perfect 90degree angle, and pop a screw in. Reinforce with some staples. Repeat with all the corners and then finish with the final two pieces in the center for support. All that’s left is to lay your shower curtain face down on the floor and place the frame on top. Simply pull it tight around the edges and staple on the back or inside of the frame so that it’s not visible on the sides. At the corners, fold excess fabric out of the way neatly to avoid any weird bumps. And you are done! How awesome does this look? This whole project cost $75. A canvas this size to be custom printed could cost almost $500!
