Welcome to Brighton, a city celebrated for its artistic vibe, stunning coastline, and diverse cultural scene. Beyond its visual and cultural appeal, Brighton is a paradise for vegans. Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just curious, Brighton offers a variety of culinary delights that will impress. Join us for a long weekend as we explore some of the best vegan eats in this coastal city.
Oowee Vegan (23 Market Street): This spot is all about indulgent, delicious, and completely plant-based fast food. The menu includes burgers, chicken tenders, fries, and milkshakes. We enjoyed their chicken tenders and waffle fries, along with the cluckin' loaded fries, perfectly paired with dirty sauce, BBQ, and mayo. Vegan comfort food at its best!
The Pipeline (6 Little East Street): A rock bar with a cool atmosphere, complete with an old-school jukebox and a menu full of vegan delights. Offering burgers, hotdogs, and kebabs with a vegan twist, we tried the Janis Joplin Doner Kebab and the Debbie Harry Burger—a combo of peanut butter and mustard that was surprisingly delightful. If you love rock music and vegan fast food, this place is for you.
Glazed (25 Ditchling Road): Heaven for doughnut lovers, this small cafe is adorned with artwork and retro items. We savored a latte with warm cinnamon sugar doughnuts straight from the fryer, followed by raspberry and Biscoff doughnuts. Each bite was a perfect start to the day.
Happy Maki (23 Sydney Street, North Laine): Specializing in vegan sushi burritos and bowls, offering a unique twist on traditional sushi. We enjoyed the hoisin 'duck' burrito, served with satay pockets and edamame beans. A satisfying lunch that’s both delicious and filling.
No Catch (127A King's Road, seafront): A not-for-profit restaurant serving authentic vegan fish and chips. We had the 'cod' and chips and the smoked 'haddock' and chips, both made from tofu. The light crispy batter and triple-fried chips were outstanding, and the mushy peas and tempura prawns completed the authentic seaside experience.
Down to Earth Coffee (75 Western Road, North Laine): This takeaway coffee shop features a vegan bakery with an incredible array of treats. We had a latte and an iced latte with a cinnamon bun and a berry bun. Both were perfectly spiced and bursting with fruity goodness.
The Roundhill (100 Ditchling Rd): A cozy spot offering three types of vegan roast—seitan beef, butternut squash nut roast, and beetroot and mushroom wellington, all with vegan Yorkshire pudding. A delight to enjoy a traditional Sunday roast, vegan-style, with a celebration of flavors and textures.
Brighton has truly impressed us with its variety and quality of vegan options. From fast food to pub grub, breakfast delights to hearty roasts, there's something for every vegan foodie. We can't wait to return and explore more of what this city has to offer. Until next time, happy vegan dining!
