Andrea Degasperi, PhD, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK, discusses the genomic analysis of environmental impact on cancer risk. Sequencing technology now allows for the identification of mutations present in tumor samples, as well as the for the identification of the origin of mutations, including mutations caused by environmental factors. Mutations induced by environmental factors have been observed in healthy tissue, suggesting cells are able to endure environmental damage up to a certain extent. This interview took place at the Molecular Analysis for Precision oncology (MAP) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
