I headed to Bowling Green Marsh before the sun had risen in the hope of seeing a Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus) that had been seen late in the evening of the previous day.
As I scanned the silhouettes of hundreds of duck (and one Spoonbill) a Phalarope shaped bird passed through my view. As the sun rose, it became possible to confirm what it was. My first one in Devon.
