American forces in Croatia are poised to complete a vital pontoon bridge across the River Sava.
The final segment has arrived for the strategic crossing - and once completed, it will allow thousands of NATO troops to cross the river into Bosnia.
Getting across the River Sava is slow and cumbersome for these U-S troops based in Zupanja in Croatia.
The only way to make the journey across the river which divides Croatia and Bosnia, is by raft.
Getting across the Sava is proving a major obstacle to the advance of 1st Armored Division into Bosnia and the Tuzla area.
At the moment it's time consuming and while on the raft, the troops and their equipment make easy targets.
But armoured vehicles on the riverbank maintain a watchful eye.
Raft journey will soon be a thing of the past, with work on a pontoon bridge is all but complete.
American engineers have connected the first seven segments of the bridge.
Each of the segment is two metres (seven feet) high.
The river banks have been reinforced for the construction and today (Sunday) the last piece of the eight part structure finally arrived.
Once in place it will enable thousands of US troops to rumble into Bosnia aboard 60-ton battle tanks and armoured vehicles.
The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of next week.
