The presentation focuses on cyber security in maritime: computers, networks, IOT, software, complex systems and devices are everywhere - on the ship's bridge, engine room and port infrastructures. Therefore, digitalization also increases the maritime attack surface: blocking ports, intrusion attempts or changing the functions of the ship.
Digitization, a vector of performance, also increases the attack surface of the maritime world: the blocking of a port, the intrusion attempts, or the modification of a ship’s functionalities can have financial, human, technological and major environmental consequences.
Cybersecurity is now a major concern in the maritime world. 10 years ago, a chair was created devoted to this topic to investigate this domain from a research perspective and to raise cyber awareness to the various stakeholders. In this presentation, research issues, challenges, opportunities to address security in this specific context and the outcomes and successes of the chair are presented.

Yvon Kermarrec is Professor of Computer Science at IMT Atlantique. He obtained a doctorate in computer science and then HDR (or habilitation).
His research and teaching activities are related to distributed systems, security, software engineering and software reliability. He was a researcher at the Courant Institute of New York University (NYU), a software architect with Raytheon (Vancouver, BC) before joining Telecom Paris and then IMT Atlantique
Since 2016, Yvon Kermarrec has held the chair of cybersecurity for naval systems, which involves Naval Group, Thales, the French Navy and academics. He supervises and directs the chair's research team and coordinates scientific activities in conjunction with industrial partners and the French Navy.
