⚜️It 1848, Italians revolted against the Austrians presence in Northern Italy, but their rebellion was quickly crushed by the Habsburgs in 1849.
⚜️In 1859, Napoleon III signed a secret treaty with Cavour, Prime Minister of Sardinia and promised French assist in a war with the Austrians.
⚜️In April 1859, war erupted and the Austrian offensive momentun at the start of the war was stooped at Montebello and Palestro.
⚜️In June 1859, Milan was overseized by the Franco-Sardinian armies after the Battle of Magenta, and the Austrians retreated near the Alps.
⚜️A massive battle broke at Solferino, in which both armies suffered heavy casualties. Even thought the French won, an armistice was signed at Villafranca.
⚜️Even though the Italians won and most of Italy was united under the House of Savoy, a diplomatic unrealibility was shown by Napoleon III.
