Gingerbread has a long history. This recipe from 1553 (where it is called "lezelten") uses a considerable quantity of at the time still very precious and costly spices.
Please be careful, boiling honey and sugar are extremely hot!

You need: 450g (1 lbs) brown sugar, 225 g (1/2 lbs) honey, 250 g (2 cups) wheat flour, 5 tsp cinnamon, 3 tsp powdered cloves, 4 tsp cardamom, ginger (grated fresh or powder)
