Hi Matt with etrailer. And today we're gonna talk about the Yakima SkyBox NX16 Roof Box, on top of our 2022 Nissan Rogue. Now this is gonna be a great option for the Rogue since we don't have a whole lot of storage in the back, so that's gonna help solve that issue. Either you have a lot of items you're trying to get from one place or another, or if you have some gear you need to stow outside of your vehicle. So let's take a closer look at it. What's nice about this system is you can open it up from either side.
So if one side's blocked, you'll have the opportunity, to open this from the other. You'll need to use the included key to unlock it, that'll open it up. And that's great too, because once I open it, you'll notice we have these two hinges on either side. And those will be our hinge locks, which prevent this from falling back down. As you can see, we have a decent amount of storage in here.
And we're gonna have these raised areas as well, and that's to create these channels. So if you have any debris, it'll fall in those channels, or moisture too, and keep your gear raised above that. And right next to there, we'll have these clamp areas, and that's where you tighten and loosen them up, with this included tool right here that has a builtin torque device. So let's take a closer look at those in the bottom. Your clamp is gonna wrap around a majority of our crossbars.
And it's also gonna have this rubber coating to it so it doesn't scratch anything up. And what's really nice about it, like I pointed out earlier, you can only tighten these from the inside, so no one can come by and just take these right off. There's a few things to note about closing this too. So if you do have issues reaching up here, then you can grab the string that we have on here and just pull it down, so it's a lot easier to do. Just make sure you tuck that back in, when you go to close it.
And if I try to take the key out now, it's not gonna come out, because there's still this red area that's showing up. And what I wanna do is make sure I close this completely until it latches. (latch clicks) And now that we have that latch, you notice a majority of that red is covered up. Now you'll have the ability to take the key out. And now you know it's locked. Now how this is gonna sit up here is gonna be 75 and a half inches long. So it's going to take up a decent amount of space. It's gonna block a majority of your sunroof. But one of the good things is this is adjustable and it won't interfere with your hatch access. This will be 35 inches wide, so it's gonna take up a majority of our crossbars we have today. So you might be able to put a smaller item on there. But if you're loading this up completely, then you probably are already maxing that weight roof's capacity is anyways. And then for the total height it's gonna add, it's gonna add 16 inches. So what I recommend doing is taking the total height of your vehicle plus your roof rack system, and then adding on the box too so you know what areas you can fit under. Now I know I touched on weight capacities just a little bit, so let's go back to that. So this is going to have a weight capacity of up to 165 pounds, but what I recommend doing is checking what your roof is rated for because you also have to take into account not only the box being around 40 pounds, you also gotta take into account your roof rack too. And then plus any items that you have stored in there. And then just go from the lowest component. And finally, we're gonna have this ABS plastic with a nano texture finish to it. And so what that's gonna do is not only be durable, but it's also gonna be scratch resistant, while also having that clean finish to it. Overall, this is gonna be a great option for ya if you do plan on taking any bigger trips, and you need something to store your luggage or your gear. Because you're probably not gonna be able to fit it in the back, especially if you're with your family. Now you could use a hitch cargo basket too. But a lot of hitch cargo baskets won't have the size that this roof box does. So if you need to get a lot of stuff put in one area, this will be one of your best bets.
