Australian Nuclear Association ANA2023 Conference, held Friday 6 October 2023 at the Aerial UTS Function Centre, Ultimo, NSW.
Introduced by Helen Cook, GNE Advisory.
Abstract: Rooted in a storied history, Westinghouse’s nuclear legacy began with the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor in Shippingport, USA. More than 60 years later, Westinghouse technology is used in 430 nuclear reactors globally, accounting for nearly half of the world's nuclear power. Amidst the imperative to combat climate change, Westinghouse leads the charge in reimagining nuclear energy delivery, catalyzing a carbon-free future through human ingenuity. Our diverse portfolio offers secure and eco-friendly solutions across power and heat applications. From the record breaking AP1000® nuclear reactor generating 1100+ MWe, to the groundbreaking AP300 SMR at 300 MWe, embracing the potential of small modular reactors, and to the innovative eVinci microreactor at 5 MWe, tailored for decentralized applications. We will outline the intrinsic technological merits of nuclear power within applications that seamlessly align with international sustainable development goals. These include GHG emission reduction, optimized resource utilization, energy safety, energy efficiency, and energy security.
