How to write an Illustration paragraph
This video teaches how to write an illustration paragraph.
Illustration is a type of informative writing. It is also called exemplification or example. When you write an illustration paragraph you support your topic sentence by providing vivid examples to prove your claim stated in your topic sentence.
The illustration paragraph provides examples of the behavior of Mr. Dillon the math teacher.
The writer begins by listing three key phrases used to describe Mr. Dillon, the math teacher. These phrases are:
• Poor teaching techniques
• Terrible student attitude
• Annoying personal habits
These key phrases are placed in the topic sentence that states the topic and explains why the writer dislikes Mr. Dillon.
For example:
Although most teachers care about their students and try to create a good impression in the classroom, my Math teacher with his poor teaching techniques, terrible student attitude and annoying personal habits doesn’t.
The writer follows with several supporting sentences that develop the three key phrases. The supporting sentences provide examples to support the writer’s viewpoint. The concluding sentence provides closure for the paragraph.
