On Black Friday 2017 we paid a secret afternoon visit to Jet Set Records in Kyoto, Japan. Every time we visit the city we always make a pilgrimage to the store, mainly because the shop's diverse selection of music and easygoing vibe never disappoints.
Jet Set, which opened in 1998, is located on the sixth floor of a nondescript office building in the center of the city. The store/label/distributor stocks an incredible range of vinyl from all genres — all styles of electronic/dance (house, techno, minimal, footwork, dub, Italo, breakbeat ... you name it), soul, R&B, hip-hop, reggae and world music. They offer a variety of formats — 7-inch, 12-inch, LPs, CDs and even flexi discs and cassettes. What's more is that there's plenty of listening stations that allow customers to check out music.
We thumbed through the shelves and saw lots of droolworthy releases. Trust us when we say that record stores don't come any better than this!
Watch and get a tour of one of Japan's best record stores.
