Are you considering bringing your furry friends along for your next RV adventure? Having your pets join in on the fun can be an enjoyable experience, as long as you’re properly prepared.
Here are a few tips for traveling with your four-legged companions at the campground and on the open road.
Find pet-friendly stops. Look for rest stops and other areas that have a place for your pets to safely get out of your RV for bathroom breaks and quick walks. Some travel centers are adding dog parks and run areas to help out those traveling with pups.
Vaccination records. You should always travel with your pet’s updated vaccination records. Some campgrounds might require that you show proof of vaccinations before entering the property. And in case of vet emergencies or even grooming needs, you’ll want to have those records on hand.
Campground restrictions. Check with each campground to ensure there aren’t size or breed restrictions for your pets.
Temperature monitor. Help keep your pets comfortable and safe inside your RV, especially while you’re away, with a temperature monitor system. This way, you can regulate the temps in your rig to ensure your pets aren’t too hot or too cold.
Portable kennel. If you’re worried about your pet damaging your RV, or just getting into things they shouldn’t, keep a foldable kennel in your rig. While you’re away from your campsite, you can ensure they are safely contained, and not doing anything to hurt themselves or your rig.
Pet waste. Be responsible and pick up your pet’s waste on the road, at the campsite, and at any other area where your furry friends come along.
Hands-free leash. Keep both hands free while walking with a hands-free leash that attaches around your waist. This way, you can pick up pet waste and carry other items with you without hassle.
Spill-proof water bowl. Reduce messes in your RV with a spill-proof dish that helps keep the water from splashing outside of the bowl.
Flea and tick prevention. Always ensure your pets are wearing a flea and tick collar or are using other preventative treatments to protect them from these pests.
Emergency vet care. Know where the nearest veterinary clinic or emergency clinic is located at each destination you visit.
