This Pork Cutlet or Pork Tonkatsu recipe is slightly different than the traditional Japanese Tonkatsu. My version has a cheese filling inside the pork loin, The melt-in-your-mouth cheese filling adds another flavor to the pork which makes it extra special. What is Tonkatsu?
Tonkatsu (豚カツ, とんかつ or トンカツ, pronounced [tonꜜkatsu]; "pork cutlet") Tonkatsu is a Japanese dish that consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet. The word Ton (豚) comes from “pork” and Katsu (カツ) is an abbreviation of Katsuretu (カツレツ) derived from the English word “cutlet”. Tonkatsu is often served with shredded cabbage, or on a bed of rice (making it a donburi dish, called katsudon).
