You've been told to do a kegel or tighten your pelvic floor when you sneeze or cough but there is a whole lot more you could be doing to prevent sneeze pee.
When the pelvic floor works optimally, you can sneeze your head off and it won't even be tempted to leak. Sounds nice right?
The biggest issue when dealing with fixing the pelvic floor is the complexity of it. The pelvic floor is a whole lot more than kegels. That's only one small piece of the puzzle. You tried kegels? Great, that's 20%.
Now, let's look at body positioning during your sneeze. How should you be holding your body? It matters. The angle of your pelvis either make it easy or hard for your pelvic floor to handle all the pressure the sneeze/cough creates.
Ever cough for a week? Bet your abs were sore. The problem is that when we cough it's like doing a crunch. Crunches without pressure regulation are impossibly hard on the pelvic floor. Yep, you should check your ab routine to make sure you're not making your pelvic floor issue worse.
What else? This is a complex topic and truly fixing the pelvic floor where you never have to think about it again can feel like a journey. A journey where you pull back one layer only to find another.
The pelvic floor is the center of our body. It supports the system. If our muscles are not activating correctly around our hips and core, if our posture is not in alignment, this effects the pelvic floors ability to do its job correctly. If it's having to pick up the slack from say, a hip muscle, it can't be there for you when you sneeze. It tries to be that person that wants to do everything without ever asking for help until they work themselves into failure! Poor pelvic floor. :)
So you see, pelvic floor treatment goes wayyyyyy beyond kegels.
