General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping met with a delegation from Myanmar's National League for Democracy (NLD), headed by NLD chair Aung San Suu Kyi, on Thursday afternoon at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.
Xi, who is also China's president, said China and Myanmar are close, friendly neighbors.
The traditional friendship between China and Myanmar has not changed for 65 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results, said Xi.
Xi said China and Myanmar have become a community of common interests and common destiny sharing weal and woe. He proposed that the two sides continue to work together, and honor the bilateral friendship and cooperation.
Xi said China always looks at the China-Myanmar relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective.
He said China hopes and believes that the Myanmar side will also maintain a consistent stance on China-Myanmar relationship and be committed to advancing friendly ties, no matter how its domestic situation changes.
Xi said the relationship between the Communist Party of China and the National League for Democracy has been developing rapidly with increasing exchanges and cooperation. He hoped that through the visit, Aung San Suu Kyi will have deeper understanding of China and the CPC, which will help increase mutual understanding and trust and lay a better foundation for the development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries.
Aung San Suu Kyi said Myanmar and China are neighbors. She hoped to deepen the two parties' relations and push forward friendly relations of the two peoples.
At the invitation of the CPC, the visit to China by the Myanmar National League for Democracy (NLD) delegation led by Madame Aung San Suu Kyi is part of the party-to-party exchanges between the CPC and the NLD.
The visit runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
