Ethiopia is building a 4.8 billion dollar dam along the Nile that will block Egypt’s water supply. The project, called the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, will have two 1.8 and 5.2 kilometer long dams, supporting a 1680 square kilometer reservoir. The project will create 5000 square kilometers of new agricultural land and will have a 6.5 GW hydroelectric power station, providing power to 60% of Ethiopian households. However, while its reservoir is being filled, the dam will decrease the water supply in Egypt, negatively impacting agriculture and the economy.
