an albuquerque elementary school teacher is facing criminal charges -- accused of sexting' one of his former students. the student is 11-years-old-- and it was her father who caught her in the act -- sending and receiving the inappropriate messages. jeff maher is live at a-p-s headquarters where a news conference just wrapped up. jeff. we first started looking into this case earlier in the day when we were tipped off abouit by a parent. and while i was out at edward gonzales elementary, it was also approached by a parent who gave me this letter that was sent out to parents by the principal telling them about what had happened.

05:00 pm 32-year-old jacob lawler, an elementary school teacher at edward gonzales was arrested this morning -- this is a picture of him from the school's website. he's accused of texting graphic and sexually explicit messages and photos to a former student who is now 11- years old. at the press conference, a-p-s police told us the sexting' likely has been going on for more than two years between lawler and the girl. according to a police report, lawler asked the girl to send him nude pictures of herself. police say lawler admitted to sending some pictures of his genitals to his former student. the girl's father caught her texting the teacher and he called police. i talked to parents and students at the school, who defended lawler. lawler has been a teacher at edward gonzales elementary, which is near 86th and tower, since 2005. he's now on paid leave pending
