The government has shifted it’s JobKeeper goalposts to allow charities greater access to the $130 billion wage subsidy scheme.
Not-for-profit charities will now be able to apply for the program, which grants workers with a fortnightly pay of $1500 per person.
However, the change will allow entities such as the Catholic Church access to the program.
When asked how it differed from the stance to not bailout companies such as Virgin due to its foreign ownership, Charities Minister Zed Seselja said the government “was not in the business of bailouts”.
"But what we have said in our response, is that we will scale up our support that it will be targeted, that it will ensure that it gets support fundamentally to keeping people in work,” he said.
"And I think Australians would expect nothing less, whether they’re employed by a foreign employer or by an Australian employer."
