What is the BEST Stone for a French Drain System? Round Rock has bigger voids than crushed rock. Use a good clean Round Rock. In this application, we're using a landscape rock. It's inch and a half Cobblestone. It's round so you can see all the voids it creates. You can see dark shadows in the stone pile. Those dark shadows equal void. Such large voids move air and water you can't get a better drainage system than that.
