Bulería.I've had lots of questions/requests to explain some rhythycal structure...
Mostly about Bulería and Soleá and the differences between... How does one rhythm structure ( compás) go over in another etc
These thing I can not exactly explain here in 10 minutes!!! So I advice you to search a teacher if all this is Chinese!!
A very common rhythmical structure is in 12 beats (think valse) There are accents on beat 3-6-8-10-12 or more modern
on beat 3-7-8-10-12. This means now the pattern is divided in 2 groups of 3 beats
and 3 groups of 2 beats.
When you play soleá (certain style (palo) with traditional rhythmical structure)
you start counting on beat 1 and you'll get every time the accent on the last beat of your group. 1-2-ACCENT 1-2-ACCENT then the 3 groups of 2 beats:
1-ACCENT 1-ACCENT 1-ACCENT
or count like I say before with the accents on 3-6-8-10-12
When you play Bulería (other style) it's the same division of groups again 2 groups of 3 beats and 3 groups of 2 beats.
The difference is that now you start every time on an accent! So you'll get:
ACCENT-2-3 ACCENT-2-3 ACCENT-2 ACCENT-2
ACCENT-2 (sing this and you'll hear the difference in pulse)
You could also say you start counting on beat 12 in Bulería and then go directly to 1 etc so 12-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11
With again accents on 3-6-8-10-12...
Bulería is also a lot faster.
Furthermore I think it's essencial that every flamenco player can give some "palmas" of the style (palo) that he plays. I gave in the vid an axample with contra tiempo (redoblar) if you can't do this than you're basics aren't correct.
I tried to slow down some Bulería in the vid to see how the pulse changes.
If this is still "Chinese" then really find yourself a good teacher and listen a lot to flamenco (not just guitar but singing, dancing, cajón etc)
Try to hear/play some of the rhythmical variations and make up you're own!!!
From you're righthand the ringfinger (anular) makes the tapping on the accents on you're guitar. Index finger is running his ass off ;) Try to keep good position from right hand without to much movement and a lot of power!!!
When you practice you really should also tap your foot on the accents (not on every beat) to really feel everything coming together! I hope this was usefull,
