Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp has said it's now placing limits on the number of times a 'viral' message can be forwarded by users. Messages on the platform that have been identified as "highly forwarded", or sent through a chain of five or more users, can now be forwarded only to a single person. The move comes as tech giants around the world struggle to stem the flow of Covid-19 misinformation flooding their platforms. WhatsApp specifically has come under scrutiny as an easy means to peddle fake news, hoax 'cures' and other falsehoods.
