After coming under heavy scrutiny from the public and animal rights groups the Dangriga Town Council has decided to abandon its euthanasia efforts of stray dogs. On Sunday the council had posted to its Facebook page informing residents that (quote) “the Dangriga Town Council in collaboration with the Public Health Department will be exterminating stray dogs on Thursday and Friday, February 3rd and 4th respectively from 9 pm to 3 am” (end quote). According to the town’s Administrator Francis Flores, the practice has become more of a tradition to deal with the municipalities’ population of stray dogs that are often a nuisance.
