The Siege of Jadotville, which took place from September 13 to 17, 1961, was a battle between Irish UN peacekeepers and Katangese forces during the Congo Crisis. "A" Company of the 35th Irish Infantry Battalion, composed of 150 men, defended their position in the mining town of Jadotville against a much larger force of Katangese troops and mercenaries. Despite being outnumbered and cut off from reinforcements, the Irish soldiers, led by Commandant Pat Quinlan, held their ground with remarkable resilience. The siege ended when the Irish, running low on supplies and surrounded, were forced to surrender, but only after a heroic five-day struggle. #shorts
