This simple demonstration uses three beakers of water to let you compare the results of mixing sand, sugar, and salt in water. After adequate stirring, the salt and sugar are not visible as both of them have completely dissolved in water. These are called soluble substances. Sand is still visible and retains its form even in water, it is an insoluble substance.
