YIP HOLDS ITS FOURTH PARLIAMENTARY SITTING OF THE SECOND PARLIAMENT
On 20th November, 2022 at HTU SRC JCR, Ho, the Second Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament met in the afternoon for its Fourth Sitting of the First Session dubbed the Third Parliamentary Sitting. The sitting was presided over by the Speaker of the Second Parliament ('Rt. Hon' Jones Amegashie-Viglo), Table office headed by the Deputy Clerk - Publicity to the Second Parliament (Mr. Cyril Amevor), Majority Caucus led by the Majority Leader of the Youth Parliament ('Hon' Amanor D. Narh) and the Minority Caucus led by the Deputy Minority Leader to the Youth Parliament ('Hon' Hubert Agbaxode).
Proceedings resumed from the 5 minutes suspension and the house moved to statements and petitions. There was no statements and petitions.
At the commencement of Public Business, Mr Speaker updated the house on updates from the committee on selection as chairperson of the committee. The speaker proceeded to update the house on the 3-day public hearing conducted by the standing orders committee to revise the standing orders of the house. Motion was moved and seconded for standing orders adopted and revised to be passed. Question put and the AYEs had it. Mr Speaker ruled. The following standing committee reports were laid on floor and distributed to honourable members. The committees are Finance, Entertainment, Internal and External Affairs, Organizing, Petitions, Publicity and Media, Research and Intelligence, Sports and Games and Welfare. The Chairpersons for the Publicity & Media Committee and the Sports & Games Committee presented their status reports and moved the motion for the consideration of their report. Both were seconded respectively for the consideration of the house. The house debated it and Mr Speaker put the question on each report, the AYEs had it and the report stood adopted.
At the commencement of debate, the house debated on this motion. “In the wake of the depreciation of the Cedi. The Government of Ghana should introduce Price Control Measures to check the profiteering by Traders on Good and Services”, The Majority Leader moved laid the motion on floor of parliament for debate, seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader. Question put and the AYEs had it. The Deputy Clerk – Publicity read the motion to the house. The leaders presented their opening statements and members debated on the motion for the day. At the conclusion of the debate, the house resolves that apart from government introducing the price control, Ghanaians would have to discipline themselves in order for the execution of the measure to be successful and disingenuous Ghanaians profiteering on the depreciation of the Cedi would have to advise themselves to stop such unjustifiable increments. The government is responsible for stabilising the Cedi and they should do that whiles Ghanaians discipline themselves.
The motion for adjournment to the Fifth Parliamentary Sitting of the Second Parliament was moved and seconded, Question put and the Ayes had it., Mr Speaker ruled.
